Jim Demmers is senior research faculty in the Information and Communications Laboratory at the Georgia Tech Research Institute and program manager for D2D@GT. He has collaborated with marine scientists at the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography and K-12 educators in developing SeaMaven, an online virtual learning environment for studying the marine ecosystem. He is a member of the ACM SIGGRAPH Digital Art Committee (DAC) where he leads the team that designs and implements the the DAC’s online art shows. His current focus is on the development of novel techniques for using interactive media to enable distance-learning, computer based training, and collaborative problem solving.

Dr. Mindy DiSalvo is a lifelong educator having served as a teacher, librarian, curriculum director, principal, and director of grants and community programs for preK-12 in Georgia’s schools since 1973. Her work has been primarily concentrated on curriculum design, professional learning, program development and management, and community engagement in the areas of literacy across the curriculum. Dr. DiSalvo is accomplished as a grant writer and in resource acquisition. She has recently joined Georgia Tech Research Institute as a Senior Research Associate to work on a team focused on providing efficient and effective science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) outreach and developing meaningful local, state, national, and international collaborative partnerships with school districts, higher education, business and industry, and community stakeholders.

Jessica Pater is a Research Associate with the Information and Communications Laboratory at the Georgia Tech Research Institute. Her areas of expertise include social media technologies, technology transfer, and curriculum integration. Her current research focuses on development of novel curriculum that maximizes advanced broadband connectivity and developing programs to support digital literacy and cybersafety in schools.

Les Smee is a Research Scientist at the Georgia Tech Research Institute. His areas of work include networking with an emphasis on wireless solutions and K-12 technology applications and training. Les’s current work focuses on how to increase K-12 access to next generation broadband and on developing the applications that will use these advanced connections.
